This rebirth of outstanding community volunteerism and achievement has gained recognition from the President of the General Federation of Woman’s Club and many other respectable organizations and community members.

Our History

The Woman’s Club of Fort Pierce was founded on October 17, 1913.  It became affiliated with the Florida Federation and the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs the following year.  It is the oldest social and civic organization in St Lucie County.

From the beginning, the Woman’s Club has been at the forefront of civic improvement and welfare. It had contributed to and/or organized groups such as the local Red Cross, Hospital Auxiliary, Humane Society, Concert Association and Community Theatre. It routinely contributed time and money to welfare organizations and Hacienda Girls Ranch, a project of FFWC. Many young people have been helped along the way to higher education by annual scholarships awarded by the Club.

For many years the public library was housed and its expenses are underwritten by the Club. When funds drive was launched in the early 1950’s for construction of the library building, the Club spearheaded the effort and contributed the first $1,000.

Fast Forward to 1966, the ladies of the Club had our beautiful Clubhouse built. It’s a uniquely built round shape that has wintered through hurricanes without any damage.  It is truly a Gem, just like the present-day ladies of the Club.  We inspire each other as well as others we meet. We work together for the greater good in our local community and throughout our world. Our projects touch lives!  If you have ever thought, “I would love to do something good for others but not sure what or how!” then here is your chance.   We still give yearly scholarships, we supply homeless shelters with items needed, we have raised hundreds of dollars for other charities as well. We work together to make it happen.

A Collect For Our Club Women

Keep us, Oh God, from pettiness;

Let us be large in thought, in word, in deed.

Let us be done with fault finding

And leave off self-seeking.

May we put away all pretense

And meet each other face to face,

Without self-pity and without prejudice.

May we never be hasty in judgement

And always generous.

Let us take time for all things;

Make us to grow calm, serene, gentle.

Teach us to put into action our better impulses,

Straightforward and unafraid.

Grant that we may realize it is.

The little things that create differences.

That in the big things of life we are all one.

And may we strive to touch and to know

The great, common human heart of us all.

And oh Lord God; let us not forget to be kind!

Mary Stewart
